RMT at Amrita

What is Registered Massage Therapy?

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a clinically focused treatment provided by a licensed massage therapist. It aims to improve soft-tissue function, relieve pain and support physical recovery through skilled manual techniques. At Amrita Healthcare, RMT is delivered as a therapeutic healthcare service rather than a relaxation experience. Treatment is based on a professional assessment and tailored to acute discomfort, chronic pain, sports-related injuries and long-standing muscle tension. RMT is a regulated healthcare service in Canada, and at Amrita it can be integrated with acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine for more complete care. Mild soreness can occur afterwards and usually eases within 24–48 hours.

Lu Gan

Lu Gan, Founder & Registered Acupuncturist

Founder & Registered Acupuncturist

Lu Gan founded Amrita Healthcare in 2022. She comes from a third-generation family of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners and holds a master's degree in acupuncture from Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, where she was later named a distinguished alumna. She trained under Dr. Wei Liu. The clinic's name carries her own: "Amrita" is Sanskrit for divine nectar, and her Chinese name, 甘露 (Gan Lu), means the same thing. Her practice follows the principle of Yang Zheng — cultivating inner resilience rather than treating symptoms alone. Her work has been featured in People's Daily.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about your care and what to expect.

How is massage therapy different from Tui Na?

They are two different professions. Massage therapy is provided by a massage therapist licensed by their own regulatory college, working from an assessment of muscles, joints, and soft tissue. Tui Na is Chinese bodywork done by an acupuncturist along the same channels used in acupuncture. Many patients use both, and we'll help you decide which fits what you came in for.

Who will be treating me?

A licensed massage therapist. Ask us for their registration details at any time — we're happy to share them.

What happens in a session?

We start with a short intake about your history, what hurts, and what you want to be able to do again. From there the therapist works with hands-on techniques suited to you, and checks in on pressure as they go. Nothing happens without your consent, and you can ask them to stop or adjust at any point.

Can I claim it through my benefits plan?

Many extended health plans include massage therapy when it's provided by a licensed therapist, though coverage and any referral requirement vary by plan. We provide a receipt with the therapist's registration details so you can submit it; please check your own plan for what it reimburses.
